In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence….

I recently completed listening to the novel 1776 by David McCullough. It tells the story of the revolutionary from just after Bunker Hill into the first month of 1777. The author gives us a detailed account of the people and place that become so critical to the sucess of the revolution. McCullough gives us what was left out of most of our history books.

Maybe, if I had read this book in high school as opposed to the watered-down history taught to our children, I might have stayed awake in class. It is an intense story filled with much adventure and intrigue, it tells the real-life stories of the people who fought for our nations independence. McCullough tells us much in his well researched novel of the people and places of the time. Most of the book is set in old Boston and New York of 1776, he goes into great detail about these places and the people who live there.

The audiobook is read by McCullough himself, although his voice is a little on the bland side sometimes, he does a fine job at interpreting his book to audio. I highly recommend this audiobook.

I gave 1776 4 out of 5 stars.
