Sitting in Texas

Sitting around the T/A truckstop in Baytown waiting on my appointment time to roll around. It gives me a little time to update my websites, seems I have been neglecting them lately. I managed to get my term paper finished up and sent in yesterday, still waiting on the grade, hopefully the instructor will like it. I ended up putting way more time into the project than I originally planned.

Its been a fairly slow news week, not much going on but all the whining over Cindy Sheehan, I think all of the press she has been getting is a general waste of time. Some of these people are so far out there on the left that they have lost touch with reality. I don’t think she is serving the memory of her son by attacking the president. Sounds to me he was a grown man and had the courage to volunteer to serve his country. She seems to be being led around by the nose by a bunch of left wing nuts.

The new hours of service are causing quite a stir on the trucking radio shows. If you want to know more then go over to the FMCSA website. They have a breakdown of the changes over there. I don’t really know how these changes are going to effect things, I do know it will make it harder to sit in a dock for several hours. We are going to have to pressure shippers and receivers to get us in and back out faster. Teams are going to have to change how they operate, my suggestion would be to drive eight hours and eight in sleeper. By the time you finish driving eight hours, ten hours on the clock should have elapsed. That’s generally how I did it when I was running team, it helped keep me and my co-driver on the same shift. We could stay either on day shift or night shift and not try driving at all hours. Made things a lot easier.

I think I’ll get out of this truck and take a walk, make my doctor happy, so everyone have a safe day and keep the shiny side up.
